The Coyne laboratory at Duke University is seeking a highly-qualified and motivated person for the position of Research Technician II. This position is for one year to start with extensions contingent on funding, performance, and needs of the lab. Position is expected to transfer to 100% grant funded.
The successful candidate will join an established team studying host-virus interactions. The position calls for creativity, multitasking, and problem solving. It is expected that the finalist selected will have the desire and ability to progress to the point that they are able to conduct independent studies in a team setting.
Our research focuses on the mechanisms used by viruses to infect the human placenta and gastrointestinal tract. The position will include research at BSL-2 conditions consisting of 1) tissue culture and molecular biology- and virological-based assays for flaviviral and enteroviral replication 2) pathogenesis and immunity studies using mammalian models of disease and 3) establishment of primary ex vivo human- and murine-based models of the placenta and GI tracts.
The technician will assist in mammalian specimen breeding, husbandry, and mammalian specimen experiments. The successful applicant will provide research support to other members of the team with a goal of eventually progressing to the point that they are managing an independent research project, given sufficient training, familiarity, and proficiency. The technician will be expected to perform complex lab testing, help develop research methods and procedures, and organize data and laboratory samples.
A bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or other related field is required, 1-2 years additional research experience is desired but not a firm requirement.
Work generally requiresa bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
