Reporting to the Vice Dean of Finance & Administration in Trinity College of Arts & Sciences, the Director of Finance provides administrative direction and oversees preparation, budget planning, and resource allocation of the annual Trinity College of Arts and Sciences budget – approximately $400M for over 50 departments, programs, and business units.
- Direct use of reserve and restricted funds and monitors fiscal operations.
- Implement University policies and guidelines as they relate to budget and payroll.
- Direct the development and management of systems to collect, consolidate, and distribute budget information both upstream and downstream using all available technologies.
- Compile data for review by Vice Dean, Divisional Deans, and the Dean of A&S, including recommendations for levels of funding and financing strategies.
- Adapt all A&S budget and financial processes and procedures to accommodate changing requirements, situations, and systems.
- Prep the deans and conduct budget meetings as needed.
- Supervise the translation of finance decisions through the Provost’s Office to the Board of Trustees using institutional systems.
- Direct and coordinate the faculty, staff, and biweekly salary setting process to implement annual pay raises.
- Direct and coordinate the fiscal year financial closeout process for Arts & Sciences.
- Direct and coordinate Finance team in the preparation and development of the A&S annual budget.
- Train and supervise the Financial Management Analyst II in the management of the Dean’s accounts (capital, startup, commitments, faculty research and endowments), SAP administration, workflow administration, cost center and org unit management, financial analysis, year-end closing, etc.
- Advise and assist the Vice Dean, Divisional Deans and the Dean of Arts & Sciences in the development of fiscal policies, MOUs, and strategies.
- Work with departmental administrators in the implementation of budget decisions.
- Manage and monitor the budget throughout the year including preparation and coordination of the semi-annual variance reports for the Provost’s Office.
- Implement and manage the Management Incentive Program to distribute budget surpluses and deficits to/from departments.
- Develop, maintain and implement a system and procedure to manage the A&S policy for External Research Buyouts.
- Manage commitments and MOUs that redirect the flow of grant F&A funds to ensure that revenue is posted to the correct school and/or faculty accounts.
- Work with departments to address problems and implement strategies to resolve financial difficulties.
- Assist departments in obtaining appropriate management and financial information.
- Assist the Vice Dean and Dean of A&S in the development of an annual as well as long range financial plan including the development of planning tools and utilization of tools provided by the Provost and Budget office.
- Develop and maintain management information systems including faculty database, staff database, faculty research funds database and commitment and endowment database, with appropriate interfaces with University systems such as dFAC, PBF, Procurement, Sponsored Programs and Student Information.
- Manage the BFR hierarchy of Arts & Sciences. Request new BFRs when appropriate and direct the transition process to move positions and fund codes.
- Coordinate and develop training where necessary for Arts and Sciences and departmental staff.
- Serve on university and college committees and working groups to provide input from the Trinity perspective when creating or modifying digital systems (PBF, salary setting).
- Represent Arts and Sciences for the Vice Dean as appropriate.
Education: Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field. A relevant advanced degree (e.g. business, finance, economics) strongly preferred;
Experience: Work requires a minimum of 10 years related business or administrative experience to acquire competence in applying general accounting principles, experience leading a team, and coordination of major finance and administrative functions. Strong Preference will be given to candidates with experience managing a complex budget in Higher Education. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

- Experience managing a $50M+ budget;
- Experience collaborating with Human resources groups and tasks.
