Position Summary:

This position is on site at our Cullowhee campus.

The Office of Student Retention advisors will, under general direction from the Director of the Office of Student Retention, advise a case-load of students through targeted interventions to support student retention and persistence. Advisors will follow an appreciative advising model of advising and a case-management approach to leverage knowledge of student needs and on-campus resources to support advisees. Advisors will also assist in the creation and implementation of cross-campus initiatives to support student retention and persistence. As part of a new office on campus dedicated to supporting students, advisors will have the exciting opportunity to contribute creatively to the office’s vision and develop innovative student programming in collaboration with cross-campus partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Master’s degree in Education, Teaching, or related field
- 2 years of experience in education supporting students, including student advising, teaching, or student support services
- Experience supporting diverse student populations and collaborating with diverse stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

- Knowledge of WCU’s academic policies and on-campus student resources
- 3 years of experience in education supporting students, including student advising, teaching, or student support services
- Experience using data analytics to design and assess student interventions
- Strong understanding of current student development theories in practice
- Experience with EAB Navigate student success management system and Ellucian Banner Student
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability
- Strong commitment to student success
- Desire to contribute creatively to the establishment of WCU’s new Office of Student Retention, its interventions supporting students, and its success in collaboration with cross-campus partners
