General Summary of Position:

The Manning School of Business is a rapidly growing college that delivers high-quality, accessible undergraduate and graduate education. We produce influential research and provide an inclusive learning environment that offers rigorous, transformative experiences. Our graduate student population has increased dramatically over the past five years and consists of approximately 30% of the students in the college. In addition to rapidly growing MBA and MS programs, the graduate student population includes a steadily growing and thriving Ph.D. program. Faculty research quality and quantity have grown substantially year after year and the number of tenured and tenure-track faculty has also increased to accommodate college growth. Manning faculty are increasingly working on interdisciplinary research and seeking external funding opportunities.

The Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies will perform a wide variety of academic administrative activities and provide support to the College. The Associate Dean will work closely with the College's leadership team of department chairs, associate dean, assistant dean, as well as collaborate with associate deans across the campus and potentially the UMass system.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education: Doctoral degree in business

Experience:

  • Tenured Full Professor

Skills:

  • Proven success as an educator in masters and doctoral level business education
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and advise graduate students
  • Strong record of implementing faculty success strategies to elevate graduate programs
  • Active record of research with strong publication history
  • Administrative/leadership experience in an academic environment
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that nurtures diverse forms of inquiry and scholarship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in growing and supporting masters-level graduate programs
  • Experience in coaching faculty from multiple business disciplines
  • Solid understanding of internal and external research funding possibilities
  • Proven commitment to interdisciplinary education and research
  • Strong record of service coaching and mentoring faculty in both research and teaching

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience with professional accreditation
  • Demonstrated understanding of challenges facing graduate students
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and monitor innovative graduate programs
  • Experience with external academic associations
  • Experience in developing external partnerships with other universities and/or the business community
  • Experience in fostering interdisciplinary research initiatives and related partnerships
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
