11-Jun-2021 Close All Job SummaryThe University of Colorado Boulder Athletics Department encourages applications for a Temporary Assistant Learning Specialist! The position works one-on-one with small groups of student-athletes who have educational impacting disabilities and deficiencies or are otherwise at high academic risk. Through the creation and implementation of individualized academic plans, the Specialist instructs students how to be successful in the classroom and in academic environments.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeAt Risk Student-Athlete Planning and Coaching:
  • Work closely with each Learning Specialist regarding students on their caseload that you will be working with in terms of: Creating and implementing strategy planning designed for at-risk student- athletes including study skills/strategy development (note-taking, test-taking, reading comprehension, and time management), motivational techniques, and learning techniques in order to improve the performance and achievement of student-athletes with learning challenges and foster autonomous learners.
Documentation and Communication:
  • Provide clear, consistent communication on a frequent basis with Learning Specialists and Herbst Academic Center staff.
  • Complete documentation of individual sessions and progress of assigned student-athletes after each meeting.
What We Can Offer
  • The hourly compensation is $15.00.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education/Special Education or comparable field.
  • Experience teaching or providing academic support services for students with learning deficiencies or disabilities. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
What You Will Need
  • Knowledge of regulations and laws associated with ADA and accommodations for the learning disabled.
  • Knowledge of formal and informal diagnostic and assessment instruments and techniques for academic and career testing.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Experience working with student-athletes in an academic support services setting.
  • Knowledge of formal and informal diagnostic and assessment instruments and techniques for academic and career testing.
  • Experience in providing advising or counseling services and programs for students in areas of study skills, academic survival skills, time­ management skills, and literacy remediation.
  • Master's Degree in Education/Special Education or comparable field.
