The Department of Anthropology and Geography at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geography, with a specialization in Geographic Information Science. The candidate must be able to teach a range of lower and upper-level undergraduate courses in service to an innovative combined B.A. in Anthropology and Geography, with particular focus on courses serving our growing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) minor and Geospatial Technologies Certificate. The candidate’s research specialization within GIScience or geography is open, although preference may be given to candidates with research or teaching experience in cultural geography that facilitates collaboration across both disciplines. Additionally, GIScience courses are popular in a wide array of degree programs; candidates may be asked to teach GIScience across multiple disciplinary contexts.
Candidates should hold an earned PhD in geography or a related discipline, exhibit scholarly promise, and possess a demonstrated record of teaching experience and excellence. The teaching load is 7 classes over the course of a 12-month academic year, and includes limited opportunities for periodically teaching evening, weekend, study-abroad, summer and distance-learning courses. The salary range is within CUPA averages.
