Overview

The Genomics Core Facility in the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics seeks applicants for a Lab Manager at the Senior Research Specialist I rank. The Genomics Core Facility provides researchers with access to Next Generation high-throughput DNA sequencing technologies. The core facility staff provides consultation on experimental design, library preparation, and data analysis. The Lab Manager will be responsible for performing sophisticated sequencing library preparation, operating the high-throughput Next-Generation sequencers, as well as the day-to-day laboratory management activity.

Extensive experience in next generation sequencing and solid technical skills in molecular biology are required for this position to reliably and efficiently construct sequencing libraries from a broad spectrum of sample types, sample numbers, and experimental complexity. These include but are not limited to single-cell RNA and DNA sequencing library preparation, large-scale projects using robots, and carrying out exploratory protocols for new assay development or implementation. The Lab Manager will also be responsible for training other core facility members and new customers on instruments and protocols.

Salary will include the full benefits package. The position is open and review of applications will begin immediately. This will be a one-year term position, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding.



Responsibilities

Specific duties include:

  • Perform sophisticated sequencing library preparation from input DNA or RNA samples using molecular biology techniques, including single-cell RNA and DNA sequencing libraries and large-scale projects using robotic systems.
  • Carry out exploratory protocols for new assay development or implementation.
  • Operate the high-throughput Next-Generation sequencers as well as monitor and maintain all instruments in the core facility.
  • Train core facility members on experimental protocols and all instruments in the core facility. Train and supervise multiple users (30 + each week) on all facility instruments in accordance with their research goals. Help the users fine-tune their protocols for better experimental results and help them trouble-shoot when needed.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day laboratory management including:
    • inventory maintenance
    • order reagents and supplies
    • ensure lab safety standards and proper waste disposal
    • manage and bill service requests via CrossLab on-line system
  • Assist with other core lab tasks as needed.


Qualifications

Essential qualifications:

  • Extensive experience (7+ years) in molecular biology.
  • Extensive experience (7+ years) in next generation sequencing, especially the Illumina platform.
  • Excellent organizational skill and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple requests and projects.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well with other members in the team.
Required education:

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field.
Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Agilent CrossLab LIMS system.
  • Experience with single-cell sequencing technology.
  • Experience with teaching or training others in a laboratory setting.
