Job Description:

  • At the University of Florida, we place a high value on the role our nurses play in helping clinicians train the next generation of veterinary students. As a member of our nursing staff, you will play an instrumental role in instructing veterinary students in technical skills and perform medical treatments and procedures as directed by our veterinarians. Duties will include patient handling and monitoring, supportive therapy and treatments, emergency procedures and will help maintain a sanitary and functionally well-organized service within the UF Large Animal Hospital. Additionally, you may be called up to act as a surgical nurse for emergency surgeries, Candidate must be reliable and responsible with a strong work ethic as well as possess the ability to accommodate shift work in a unit that is open 24/7.

  • Hours consist of typically working five 8-hour shifts per workweek.
    Shifts may include: 1st Shift (7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.), 2nd Shift (3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.) or 3rd Shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.). Assigned days may vary Sunday through Saturday, weekends and holidays included. Also may require working rotating or alternate shifts and paid “on-call duty" depending on hospital needs. Also includes shift and/or weekend pay differential.
  • This position requires a post-offer health assessment. A background check will be required.
    No relocation assistance is provided for this position. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Expected Salary:

$16.00-$18.00 per hour, commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • To qualify as a Tech 1:
    • High School Diploma; two (2) years of work experience loading, unloading, restraining, handling and treating horses or one (1) year of work experience loading, unloading, restraining, handling and treating horses in a veterinary academic teaching hospital. Certification or licensure as a Veterinary Technician preferred.
  • To qualify as a Tech 2:
    • High school diploma or equivalent; four years of work experience loading, unloading, restraining, handling and treating horses or two years of work experience loading, unloading, restraining, handling and treating horses in a veterinary academic teaching hospital; and certification or licensure as a Veterinary Technician.

Tech 1: Certification as a Veterinary Technician
