Summary Description::

To provide technical oversight of critical technology services that serve students and employees; ensure functional, efficient and secure operation of the District’s servers, hardware, operating systems and networking software; perform specific application software development, system analysis and programming as needed; provide leadership in project management; and manage District staff and consultants as directed.
To foster a culture of collaboration, mutual respect, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the District; lead by example; actively participate in and support District-wide participatory governance components and activities and other collaborative processes; encourage professional excellence among the staff and promote an organizational culture of customer service, innovation, and quality services.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from the Director of Information Technology – Infrastructure and Security.

Exercises direct supervision over assigned professional and technical staff; also coordinates contract vendors and provides technical direction to others outside the department serving on special project committees.

Education and Experience Guidelines::

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Education/Training::

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in infrastructure, telecommunications, computer engineering, computer science, information technology or closely related field, or commensurate direct work experience in computer systems, operations and/or programming.

Experience::

Experience:

Four years of increasingly responsible experience in computer systems analysis, programming and operations support and one year of experience directly managing technical staff.

Preferred:

Industry certification in Microsoft products and operating systems.

A master’s degree in a related field or recent evidence of continuing education in area of assignment.

One year of systems administrator-level experience in a Unix/Linux operating system environment.

Experience with a multi-user operating system, demonstrated experience in management, operations, programming and end user support in a large-scale information systems environment.

Experience with enterprise systems, systems administrator-level experience in Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems environments, and systems administrator-level experience in virtualization and cloud technologies.

License or Certificate::

A valid California driver’s license.

Work Environment::

Typically, duties are performed in an office environment at a desk or computer workstation. Communicate with technology leadership to discuss and plan hardware, software, cloud and service needs; with information technology staff to discuss system and networking software technical issues, problem analysis and performance reporting; with District and college staff to discuss technical support issues, problem analysis and solutions; with college technology staff to discuss and plan systems software configuration and operational procedures; with vendors to report software and/or hardware problems, schedule maintenance and repairs, and research and assess products and services.

Represent District Information Technology when attending assigned meetings; attend meetings such as the District-wide Technology Council and the Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Committee and provide information or make reports as necessary.
