Position Summary
We are currently seeking adjunct faculty with extensive experience in writing creatively and publishing in four key genres: Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Poetry, and/or Drama.
The role of adjunct faculty in the Professional Creative Writing program is to teach graduate students in one or more of our four masters degree concentrations. Our courses are offered in three formats including on campus, online, and hybrid (60% on campus/40% online). University College uses the Learning Management System (LMS) Canvas for all courses, regardless of delivery mode.

Essential Functions
Adjunct faculty at University College are subject matter experts in their field and integrate professionally relevant, diverse examples into their teaching and discussions. They adhere to University College Faculty Teaching Expectations and meet the following expectations:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with writing and publishing creative work.
  • Ability to effectively convey key concepts and strategies for writing creatively and support them through the choose of relevant instructional materials , including texts, presentations, multimedia resources, and/or educational tech tools.
  • Ability to provide clear, precise assignment instructions and actionable feedback and guidance to students.
  • Knowledge of and experience with higher education in general and adult learners in particular.
  • Commitment to presenting and honoring diverse perspectives, cultural experiences, life circumstances, and goals for writing and publishing.
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing systems, procedures, and priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in creative writing or related field or any masters degree along with significant publishing experience.
  • Successful teaching/facilitation experience with adults.
  • Work or academic experience congruent with the content of a course or courses offered within our Professional Creative Writing program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in creative writing or a related field.
  • Publication in the field of creative literature and/or authorship of material produced for performance on stage or in other media.
  • Recognition of professional accomplishment in one or more areas of expertise related to courses offered in our Professional Creative Writing program.
  • Professional presentations related to the field of creative writing and publishing.
  • Successful teaching experience with adults.
  • Completion of an education or training program on adult learning or internship with a mentor.

Stipend is determined by enrollment.

  • 1 student = $600
  • 2 students = $1,200
  • 3 students = $2,400
  • 4-8 students = $2,650
  • 9-14 students = $3,750
  • 15-23 students = $4,150
