Position SummaryStudent Health Services offers primary medical care and health promotion to students of San Diego State University through a wide range of programs and services. Care is provided by board certified physicians, certified nurse practitioners and other medical staff including nurses, clinical laboratory scientists, x-ray technologists, medical assistants, and pharmacists. In addition to the basic medical care, Student Health Services offers health education, orthopedics, osteopathic manipulative treatment and psychiatry.The Phlebotomist/Clinical Laboratory Assistant within Student Health Services, under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, performs phlebotomy and varied non-technical laboratory procedures in processing or preparing laboratory specimens, and materials and supplies. This position provides clerical support to the laboratory, including answering phones, responding to requests from providers, students and support staff, and assisting lab manager with assigned record keeping.For more information regarding Student Health Services, click here.This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2022. This is a 11/12 pay-plan position, where the incumbent works 11 months per year and is paid over 12 months. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and are eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent and six to twelve months of related experience in a healthcare setting or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. License and Certifications RequiredPossess and maintain valid certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, as defined by the California Department of Health Services, which permits the incumbent to perform skin punctures and venipuncture.Preferred QualificationsOne-year experience in a clinical laboratory setting.One-year experience entering data into an electronic health records system.Experience working with college students or young adults in a college health center setting.Working knowledge of diagnostic codes used in insurance billing.Experience preparing samples for testing at reference laboratories.Specialized RequirementsDemonstrated skills and efficiency in the use of computers and laboratory information software systems.Compensation and BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $2,669 per month, based on a 11/12 appointment. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,669 - $4,737 per month.
