General Description:

Under the direction of the Center for Learning and Teaching staff, works directly with faculty to build and produce online courses and material and to select appropriate media and presentation tools for in-class delivery. Consults with faculty and CLT staff, recommends media and tools, and advises on multimedia production issues. The incumbent is also responsible for developing and delivering technical training to distance education and classroom faculty in the use of tools for teaching distance learning classes. Work results have a direct and highly visible impact on the quality of instruction, services and image of OCCC.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Associate’s degree or two years of college-level course work in computer applications, instructional technology and multimedia production or related area.

Relevant experience performing the duties of the job may substitute for the educational requirement.

Two years of recent experience in a setting working with various types of computer software and hardware and multimedia applications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to use the Internet effectively.

Ability to communicate effectively by phone, email, and in-person.

Positive human relations skills.

Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of instructional design.

Knowledge of current computer software packages.

Considerable knowledge of current computer creative and production software applications.

Experience using Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, and e-mail.

Troubleshooting basic PC and browser issues.

Ability to work with non-technical clients and students and translate content into multimedia products and formats including, but not limited to: video, audio, graphics, digital animations, and HTML.

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a project team.

Organizational skills.

Ability to remain calm under pressure.

Active listening skills

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

May need to lift 25 lbs. and move computer equipment.
Work is typically performed in an office environment.
Heavy computer use on a daily basis

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree
2-4 years of experience providing support
2-4 years of experience creating multimedia products for higher education

Work Hours:

Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Evenings and weekends may be needed due to special events.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

Works one-on-one and in groups with faculty and staff to create online courses, services and instructional material.
Collaborates with other CLT staff to work with faculty to gain an understanding of the course objectives and outcomes.
Assists with creation of courses and other training materials, and selects and recommends media and teaching activities.
Assists faculty and staff with options for presenting instructional materials or presentations using a variety of software applications including, but not limited to Camtasia, Captivate, Photoshop, videoconferencing, digital cameras and audio/video editing software.
In collaboration with appropriate department staff, trains faculty and staff in the use of the Learning Management System.
Provides technical support for faculty and student users.
Provides information and assists faculty and staff with using IT equipment and software.
Provides training and workshops for individuals or small groups on a number of topics dealing with technology and course work delivery.
Serves as development resource and produces documentation and training material in response to instructional needs.
Provides professional guidance to faculty in designing, producing and maintaining instructional content and making any adjustments for the most effective delivery of course materials.
In collaboration with appropriate department staff assists with the administration of the Learning Management System. This includes creating, backing up and restoring courses and managing user and course accounts.
Uses the LMS to manage training registration and tracking.
Researches new instructional technologies for viability within instructional/classroom setting and advises on equipment and training needs.
Makes recommendations to departments and/or the campus regarding instructional-related IT equipment purchases.
Designs, develops and produces media elements for courses and other projects.
Advises on production issues, including content acquisition, multimedia authoring, animation, graphics, video and audio.
Monitors appropriate usage by instructors of materials concerning copyright laws.
Maintains up-to-date computer skills by attending training on new equipment and learning new/modified procedures and software.
Serve as first point of contact and provide technical support to students, faculty, and staff for the Learning Managements System via phone, email, web conferencing software, and in-person.
Troubleshoot end-user issues with web browsers, software, and learning technologies.
Assist students, faculty, and staff with email, Microsoft Office365 and the Office suite, and other campus software.
Use ticketing systems to record and track support requests.
Create accessible training resources for the Learning Management System, various software and systems, and other learning technologies.
Assist with the updating and maintenance of CLT computers.
Maintain relationship with the IITS Help Desk to assist with supports as needed.
Report trends or complex issues to appropriate CLT Team members.
Assist with assessing LMS data and report creation.
