Overview

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.

The communications intern will support PPPL’s communications team, which informs the public and staff about PPPL’s primary mission of developing fusion energy as an affordable, abundant, and sustainable method of generating electricity, as well as about PPPL’s environmental activities, organizational changes, equity, diversity and inclusion efforts, public outreach and science education efforts, and other news. The intern will also support internal communications aimed at informing staff about internal events, policy, programs, diversity and inclusion and equity programs, employee resource groups etc.



Responsibilities

Under the guidance of Communications staff, the intern’s duties would include, but are not limited to:

  • Writing brief articles about upcoming events for the internal website
  • Researching and writing profiles with the guidance of Communications staff for the internal and external websites
  • Helping to cover and writing about internal and external events for the internal and external websites
  • Writing feature stories about PPPL programs for the internal and external websites
  • Contributing to the internal staff newsletter and for the internal and external websites
  • Contributing to equity, diversity, and inclusion communications for the internal and external websites


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Junior or senior pursuing a degree in Journalism, Marketing or Communications
  • Available to work during the summer through the fall
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • High level of initiative and motivation
  • Technically savvy, with expertise in Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with Drupal a plus
  • Experience using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others
  • Ability to multi-task
