Job Description
The Northern Arizona University Athletic Department is searching for an enthusiastic, creative, and driven candidate who will serve as the point of contact for the Men’s Basketball and Men’s and Women’s Track and Field programs. In addition, this position will oversee all of the department’s student engagement strategies and efforts, as well as having oversight of three Fan Engagement Graduate Assistants.

Reporting directly to the Associate Athletic Director, Fan Engagement and Revenue Generation, responsibilities include, but not limited to:

    Serve as departmental lead for all efforts for the Men’s Basketball and Men’s and Women’s Track and Field programs. Emphasis will be placed on attendance, revenue generation, and event presentation, when applicable.Operate as game day producer for assigned sports, focusing on the expansion of game day presentation efforts, including theme days, promotions, corporate partner activations, video features, and traditional elements. Will coordinate scripting for PA, videoboard, band, cheer, dance, television, and student groups.Develop and implement marketing and promotional strategies for assigned sport programs focusing on student/community engagement, revenue generation, group sales collaboration, and social media integration.Oversight of all departmental student engagement efforts, including but not limited to serving as point of contact for student spirit organizations, operation of the student loyalty mobile app, scheduling tabling opportunities, orientations, and developing and maintaining relationships with key campus organizations such as Student Government, Residence Life, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Student Affairs, and Recreational Sports.Manage the three Fan Engagement Graduate Assistants as well as oversee the unit’s student internship and departmental mascot programs, including recruiting, hiring, training, and scheduling of in-office and game day specific student workers

    .

    Support of the graphic design needs of the marketing department, including the creation and editing of templates, fliers, and other promotional materials.Assist with the planning and implementation of special events, including but not limited to football game day tailgate areas, including student tailgate lot and the Ponderosa, a community tailgate space.Provide solutions to continuously improve customer service and enhanced game-day experience for fans.Other duties as assigned to continue to elevate the department’s mission and goals.

Minimum Qualifications
    Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications
    Master’s Degree1-2 years of demonstrated experience working within an intercollegiate athletic departmentExperience in creation of marketing plans, special event coordination, student engagement strategies, and management of student workers

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
    Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and InDesign.Demonstrated experience with social media.Ability to work independently.Strong verbal and written commucation skills, with the ability to connect and engage with student organizations, campus leaders, community partners, coaching staffs, and coworkers.
  • Intermediate knowledge of routine community relations tools, processes, and concepts, including public relations methods, event planning, and relevant social media applications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Creativity and attention to detail.Understanding, compliance, and commitment to all NCAA, Big Sky Conference, and institutional rules.
  • Balances competing priorities.
  • Demonstrates problem solving, organizational, and analytical capabilities.
  • Analyzes non-routine situations and anticipates issues.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check.

Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus and NAU-Fort Defiance as these campuses have on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

Salary

Commensurate with experience.

**The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.


FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU.

Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
