Alumni Relations
Georgia State University

The Assistant Director for Marketing and Communication provides professional skills and knowledge for all areas of communication for Georgia State Alumni. This includes marketing planning and implementation, stewardship and communication to Georgia State alumni, donors, members and event attendees.

Responsibilities

Marketing
•    Handles development, management and evaluation of marketing campaigns designed to engage alumni and to promote awareness of alumni programs, benefits and services, and affinity programs.
•    Uses data effectively to determine the best course of action for the organization and department.
•    Implement a visible marketing campaign of the Association, increasing communication flow among the university community, alumni, and surrounding areas.
•    Develops a stewardship program for all active participants: donors, members, volunteers and event attendees.
•    Represent the alumni department on university committees and action groups planning joint university/alumni programs.
•    Benchmark with institutions to identify best practices to continually engage alumni.
•    All marketing piece design working in conjunction with the Graphic Designer.

Communications
•    Under the direction of the Senior Director, manage all alumni communication for Georgia State University’s 265,000 alumni, including social media, web, email and print.
•    Work directly with the Office of Advancement communications department to organize annual calendars and cohesive plans for Georgia State alumni.
•    Prepare annual plans for communication.
•    Facilitate a comprehensive communication campaign including direct mail, telemarketing, alumni publications, web, video and email communication. Perform all phases of the communication process, including initial contact and all follow-up procedures. Coordinate mailings internally and with outside vendors.
•    Implement additional vehicles of communication with all internal, which strengthen the awareness of university accomplishments and alumni programs. Areas of communication include alumni publication, alumni email, listserve interaction and mailing inserts.

Finances
•    Strategize and monitor all budget actions on a regular basis throughout the year. Develop budget, quarterly projections, and long-term budget assessments.
•    Maintain records and systems that assure sound fiscal management as required by the university and alumni department.

Organizational Relationships
•    Reports to the Senior Director of alumni department of Office of Advancement.
•    Supervises Graphic Designer II.
•    Assist the alumni office support staff by providing direction for improving processes related to alumni and office communication.
•    Works daily with GSU alumni, students, faculty and staff, establishing and maintaining a constructive relationship with these groups as required for accomplishing the goals of the office.
•    Works closely with the Office of Advancement communication department, the Office of Public Relations, Marketing and Communications and all other college/department communicators.

Note: Position requires limited travel, evening and some weekend work related to special events.



Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of supervisory/management experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Georgia State’s main campus is located on 34 acres in downtown Atlanta. University centers in Alpharetta, Brookhaven, Buckhead and Henry County offer students convenient suburban locations for graduate courses in business and education.

More than 50,000 students annually attend Georgia State University. While 90 percent of the students are from Georgia, students also come from all 50 states and 160 countries. More than 1,400 international students attend Georgia State and graduate students comprise 31 percent of the student population.

Degrees are offered at the bachelor’s, master’s, specialist and doctoral levels through six units: the College of Arts and Sciences, J. Mack Robinson College of Business, College of Education, College of Health and Human Sciences, College of Law and Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. In addition to the numerous degree programs, Georgia State offers full- and part-time programs and day, evening and weekend classes.

Students have many choices in extracurricular activities including more than 22 fraternities and sororities; and some 250 chartered student groups, including 60 degree-related student groups, seven religious, 24 law-oriented and 22 multicultural/international groups; and 10 honor societies. There is also an active student government association which includes the student senate and the judicial board.

The Georgia State Panthers are members of the Colonial Athletic Association and compete in 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports, including basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, track and volleyball. The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.

The university’s innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor recreation ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, rafting and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and snorkeling trips. And WRAS, Georgia State’s popular 100,000-watt radio voice, is the most powerful student-run radio station in the United States.
