The Assistant Director (AD) is responsible for the development and administration of the Universitys Safety Committees and Quality Assurance Program (SQAP). The safety committees include: the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), the Laboratory Safety Committee (LSC), the Radiation Safety Committee (RSC), the Dual Use Research of Concern Committee (DURCC), the Scientific Diving Safety Committee (SDSC), and any related subcommittees. The SQAP program also provides research compliance support to the CARBX program. The AD role includes the development, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive program that includes policy development, training, auditing, monitoring, enforcement and reporting, consistent with best practices, federal, state and local laws and regulations and BU policies and procedures. This position has 4 direct reports.

Required Skills

Required Education: Bachelors Degree

Preferred Education: Masters Degree or Juris Doctorate

Related academic or research compliance experience may be considered in substitution of degree. Minimum 5 years progressive experience, preferably in an academic, medical or research compliance enterprise Advanced analytical skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; exceptional project/process management knowledge. Advanced knowledge of federal and state regulations related to research compliance, biosafety, radiation safety, laboratory safety and other institutional regulations and policies related to research integrity. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage relationships with faculty researchers, senior-level management, staff colleagues, as well as local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
