Job Description:


The Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences (DCONHS), Division of Health and Wellness Studies, seeks applicants for a Lecturer position in Aquatics and Triathlon Training. This full-time (10 month), non-tenure track faculty position has an anticipated start date of Fall 2021, and is renewable annually.


The successful candidate will possess strong teaching and evaluation skills with an extensive background in Aquatics and Triathlon training. This position includes fulfilling the role of the course coordinator for all Aquatic based and running courses offered within the Health and Wellness Studies department. In addition to teaching courses in aquatics and triathlon training, this position will include other administrative duties regarding the West Gym pool oversight. As the Aquatics Director, responsibilities for training lifeguards, scheduling lifeguards for pool classes and events, and AED maintenance in the building are required. We are seeking applicants with expertise and current certifications in the following areas:


  • Certified Lifeguard Instructor | American Red Cross
  • Certified Level 2 Sports Science Coach | USA Track & Field
  • Certified Personal Trainer | NESTA
  • Certified Wellness Coach | Spencer Institute
  • Certified Triathlon Coach | ITCA

Collaborative qualities of the candidate are essential as evidenced by previous work on cooperative interdisciplinary projects and/or courses taught.


Preference will be given to candidates who have taught in higher education and have experience teaching aquatics, exercise, and health-related curriculum in a traditional and on-line environment. The position will require teaching general education courses as well as courses in the Health and Wellness Studies Minor. Additional faculty responsibilities may include student advising, committee assignments, scholarship, and service to the university. Experience with a variety of technology including on-line learning environments and innovative classroom teaching is preferred. Having relevant Exercise and Wellness related certifications as well as participation and membership in professional organizations is encouraged.


Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience and academic preparation. The Division of Health and Wellness emphasizes teaching, research, and service. The position reports to the Director of Health and Wellness Studies.



Requirements:


Qualified applicants must hold a Master's degree with preference given to doctoral candidates (ABD) or (PhD) in a health-related field. Certifications for Aquatic facility oversight is a must. Certifications from ACSM, CHES, Registered Dietitian (RD) or equivalent are desirable. A minimum of 3 years of full-time teaching in a higher education, aquatics, and a health and wellness program is requested.
