Job Summary:

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a full-time (9-month) Lecturer position to begin August 16, 2021.

Position responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service to the university/community/profession. We are seeking a faculty member who can teach multiple content areas including clinical research, and assist in other program coursework. The lecturer will also assist in the integrated clinical experiences (ICE) aspect of the curriculum. The successful candidate will possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Eastern Washington University is a regional, comprehensive university with its main campus in Cheney, WA. The DPT Program is located at EWU Spokane, a primarily health sciences campus, with state-of-the-art space and facilities. The DPT Program is 2 years 9 months in length, has 8 full-time faculty positions, and admits 38 students each fall. Opportunities for summer teaching may be available. The Spokane area is the heart of the Inland Northwest, with excellent restaurants, theater, shopping, skiing, hiking, lakes, and high quality schools and housing.

Conditions of Employment:

While we anticipate being open for in-person instruction for academic year 2021-22, should Washington State or university pandemic restrictions disallow for in-person instruction, then courses will be taught via online platforms, including Zoom and other technologies. Candidates must be able to demonstrate competence using these technologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned clinical and/or academic doctoral degree (DPT and/or PhD or equivalent)
  • State of Washington physical therapist license or eligible
  • 3 years clinical practice experience as a physical therapist
  • Proficient in use of classroom technology
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • Experience teaching at the university level
  • established record of scholarship (publications, national presentations, grant funding)
  • Board-certification in physical therapy or equivalent
  • Current membership in the American Physical Therapy Association
  • Current active service to the physical therapy profession

Responsibility / Duty:

Position responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service to the university/community/profession. We are seeking a faculty member who can teach musculoskeletal/orthopedics content, clinical research, and assist in other program coursework. The lecturer will also assist in implementing the integrated clinical experience aspect of the curriculum. The successful candidate will possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

A workload plan will be developed and included as part of the faculty contract. Teaching normally will comprise 100% of the workload, 45 credits in a 2-semester year.

Teaching includes the following additional responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
• Meet all scheduled classes
• Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance expectations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
• Schedule and attend office hours
• Turn in grades according to established deadlines

Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
