Data Scientist Administrator

Position Summary
  • Leads development of business intelligence system and clinical analytics solutions including system analysis, design, programming, testing, maintenance and documentation.
  • Assists with the development of long-range and short-range plans for standardization and implementation of reporting strategies and solutions.
  • Provides design specifications for integration of new and existing systems that feed the enterprise data warehouse.
  • Identifies software, system and other issues relating to performance of reporting platforms.
  • Responsible for efficient and effective operation of clinical data warehouse and clinical analytics systems; applying a high degree of competence, knowledge and creativity to resolving major problems.
  • Evaluates system performance and investigates alternatives if necessary.
  • Collaborates with departments in the selection and set-up of applications suitable to their needs.
  • Participates with the information technology team(s) and MSU Health Care in the analysis, recommendation, preparation and implementation of hardware, operating systems and networks.
  • Responsible for meeting expected project implementation deadlines

    Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

    Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science or Information Systems; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in programming, computer systems development, design and analysis, supervision and time and cost estimations for new projects; Electronic Medical Record (EMR) such as Epic and/or Athena system experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Desired Qualifications

    Master's degree in Health Administration; ten (10) year experience in healthcare industry, particularly delivery systems, and business-related processes, technology and practices, functions and architectures required.

    Five plus years of relevant data warehouse and analytics development experience, plus related technical experience, demonstrated through:

    Possessing a high level of technical expertise in the following technologies:

  • Tableau, Cognos, PowerBI
  • PLSQL, TSQL, MS SQL Server and SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Clinical information systems: Revenue Cycle Management and EMR (Athena)
  • Python, R, C#
  • Formal training and experience in software development life cycle management, both traditional and agile approaches
  • Formal training and experience in software design patterns, specifically MVC, MVA and MVP
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, implement and lead effective work processes
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and effectively communicate with staff at all levels including proven ability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff across multiple disciplines.
