International Admissions Counselor

Position Summary

Interviews and counsels prospective international and domestic students and families to ascertain their qualifications and provide academic program and admissions program information; reviews international and domestic applications for admissions to determine students' eligibility for acceptance to the University; corresponds with and visits secondary schools and community colleges to inform counselors and students about the University and to solicit their interest; determines eligibility and certifies admission; designs and implements recruitment plans for domestic and international students; assists in planning and/or participates in scholarship programs and on- and off-campus recruitment programs to generate interest in the University.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in admissions, counseling, public relations, student services or related area, including implementing programs and schedules, making formal presentations, and working with the public; experience with database, spreadsheet, desk top publishing and/or presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in a related field; one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in counseling with college-bound or college level international student populations, including planning and implementing programs and schedules and working with individuals, the public, and student services; strong intercultural awareness and competence experience with database(s) or CRM systems, spreadsheet, desk top publishing and/or presentation software; willingness and ability to travel internationally and domestically; excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; familiarity with social media tools.

Two to five years of International Admissions experience; knowledge of international credentials and educational systems (especially within India and Europe), experience using CRM such as Slate or Salesforce; fluency in one or more world languages; basic student immigration rules; strong written communication skills, and living and/or travelling abroad.

Work Hours

Standard work hours are Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; however, weekend hours and evening hours are required as needed. Travel schedules will also require variable work hours.
