The purpose of this position is to recruit and sustain enrollment of all research participants in a NIH funded randomized clinical trial treating 550 young adults who have a cannabis use disorder. The Research Technician will focus on all modalities of recruitment e.g., campus-based recruitment, flyers, signage, digital signs, campus radio, and social media and enrollment including consenting, screening, survey assessments, and biological assessments. They will assist the project coordinator in all aspects of the study with specific attention on participant recruitment, enrollment, monitoring the texting intervention, participant communication, and responding to inquiries.  This position will work under the direct supervision of the project coordinator.  


  1. Assist the research team in all modalities of recruiting participants. This will include engaging in systematic campus-based recruitment by manning a recruitment table, posting and checking campus and community flyers and signage, and checking digital signs, campus radio, and social media for study recruitment information.
  2. Enroll participants into the study. This will include explaining the study to participants, consenting participants, checking screen results, setting up baseline surveys, explaining which condition the participant is allocated, testing participant phone for accurately receiving intervention and all phone-based surveys, explaining and collecting a biological assessment (urine) from participants, making sure participants understand the study schedule of surveys, incentive payments, and other procedural information.
  3. Document each procedure as defined in the study protocol.
  4. Meet daily with the project coordinator to review progress, concerns, and adjustments as necessary.   
  5. Assist the project coordinator in monitoring the texting intervention by conducting systematic reviews of texting content.
  6. Monitor participant communication and inquires.
  7. Assist the project coordinator in monitoring follow-up surveys and necessary communication.
  8. Follow all standard operation procedures related to their positions detailed in the study protocol.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned. 


EDUCATION: At minimum, applicant must hold a bachelor's degree in psychology, public health, social work, or related field. 1 year experience of working in a university research lab conducting clinical or related research. Preferably experience working in a university research lab conducting randomized clinical trials treating substance use or mental health.

EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate will have knowledge of research design, participant engagement, research procedures working with human subjects, and assessment procedures. Skills in being able to follow complex research protocols. Ability to meet a human subject training requirements (CITI, clinical research trainings suggested by NIH). Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing. Knowledge of scientific procedures including documentation and protocols typically utilized in psychological and public health research.  

WORK SCHEDULE: .This position may occasional work evenings and weekends.
