Primary Purpose of Department:

Leadership & Community Engagement, a unit of the Student Venues and Engagement department within Student Affairs at UNC Charlotte, creates student learning and development opportunities that inspire campus involvement and civic engagement. The Leadership & Community Engagement Unit supports this mission through providing leadership development and community engagement for students through cohort based programs, leadership skill development workshops, academic classes leadership resources and service learning opportunities. The unit is also responsible for community engagement/volunteer service opportunities for students as well as administration of the Jamil Niner Food Pantry, Alternative Service Breaks, the LeaderShape Institute and administration of an academic certificate in Leadership Studies.

Primary Purpose of Position:

Provide strategic and tactical leadership to the Jamil Niner Student Pantry as well as service learning, civic engagement, volunteerism and leadership programs including course instruction.

Summary of Position Responsibilities:

-Operates the Jamil Niner Student Pantry including food procurement, working with on and off campus food drives and general venue management
~ Assists with volunteer and service learning projects including special Days of Service
-Assists with creation, promotion and development of an ASB opportunity
-Facilitates leadership course
-Works with leadership programs in a variety of capacities which could include directing one cohort program
-Supervises graduate assistant and volunteers
-Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education/Experience:

Masters degree in student affairs, leadership development, social work, public health or other applicable field and two years of experience in the student services or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Strong preference will be given to candidates with a master’s degree in student personnel or higher education administration and two plus years of direct experience. Prior experience working with a food pantry is a plus. Experience working with college students in leadership and community engagement; academic course instruction, experience in group advisement, training and development, event planning, and program development is essential. Must have an understanding of student development theory, an understanding of working with groups and group dynamics, interpersonal skills to develop solid working relationships, organizational skills, administrative skills, event planning and logistics skills and experience as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks and be detail oriented.

Ability and willingness to drive a University van
