General Summary

The BI Analyst is responsible for creation and maintenance of both BI and operational reports for the University community. This includes IBM Cognos and Microsoft Power BI development, as well as analyzing transactional source systems to develop, manage, and assist in build of the data warehouse environment. Additionally, this position will be responsible for generating SQL queries to pull data directly from multiple source systems, including the enterprise data warehouse.

Technology Solutions provides information technology products and services for the administrative and business functions of Illinois State University. Through our Technology Support Center and our highly trained staff, Technology Solutions looks to improve the campus experience for all students, faculty, staff, and the rest of the campus community.

The Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA) team provides a strong business intelligence environment that helps the University make informed and strategic decisions. This groups manages the Institutional Data Warehouse and provides data access and training.

Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelors or equivalent degree in Business Intelligence, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Technology, Business Administration, Marketing Analytics, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar field.
  2. Three (3) or more years of experience developing and supporting business intelligence solutions, preferably in IBM Cognos, Microsoft Power BI, or similar BI tool.
  3. Three (3) or more years of experience developing complex SQL queries
  4. Three (3) or more years of experience utilizing multiple database types, including but not limited to a relational-style database such as Oracle or SQL
  5. Three (3) or more years of experience interacting with end-users and key stakeholders on business intelligence or data warehousing initiatives
  6. Three (3) or more years of experience using and/or analyzing data structures in a transactional source system, such as an ERP
  7. Three (3) or more years of experience using operational and analytical database concepts
Work Hours

Core Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday; weekend or after-hours work may be required as business needs dictate, to support change management or for disaster recovery

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$60,000 - $80,000 annual

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
