The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Multimedia and Content Director to support the creative endeavors of the Women’s Basketball program. The University, located in Charlottesville, Virginia, is a selective public institution known for its teaching, research, and public service. UVA sponsors a 27 sport intercollegiate athletics program, which includes approximately 750 student-athletes.
The Multimedia & Content Director position exists to provide support to the Women's Basketball program in the areas of recruitment, promotion, and fan engagement. This position will create both graphic design and video production content for social media and other recruiting publications and distribution platforms. The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:
Supporting a broad range of communications functions, such as advertising, marketing, multimedia, and creative productions.
Participating in specific communications projects, as needed to promote the program to a variety of groups, including, but not limited to: prospects, alumni, fans, donors, parents, faculty, and staff.
Generating content for social media initiatives.
Publishing digital and printed material professionally designed to foster or promote interest in and loyalty among program donors and various constituencies toward the Athletics Department and its mission.
Editing, uploading, and organizing content based on strategic communications initiatives.
Managing services related to multimedia operations.
Interacting with other creative professionals to realize vision and ensure products meet the needs of organizational leadership.
Employing the University's graphics standards, techniques, methods, and style guides, developing standards for the institution or organization, where relevant.
May oversee work completed by external agencies, in order to complete multimedia deliverables in alignment with objectives.
Following initial consultation with appropriate supervisor, coordinates all phases of production (conception, scheduling, collecting necessary imagery, writing, formatting text, editing, and layout) with contributions from other athletics department staff members, as needed.
Responsible for ensuring each project is finished on time and at a high level of proficiency.
Initiating communication and collaborating with various internal and external constituencies to gather information and coordinate service.
This position requires good judgment and independent decision-making concerning video design, approving projects, editing video, and other issues as needed.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $37,500 - $40,000, dependent upon qualifications.
Bachelor's Degree; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
With a Bachelor's Degree, some professional experience in a related field (Graphic Design, Social Media Coordination, Video Production) is also required. Without a degree, a minimum of 4 years of related experience is required.
Must have extensive experience utilizing Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator, Premiere) and production programs.
The ability to: utilize standard principles of professional design; demonstrate a high level of proficiency in graphic design software, sports terminology, sports writing, and photo editing; convey information, and/or plans clearly in written format; and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in interactions with all UVa and Athletics Department staff, outside community including fans, visitors, the press, prospective students, parents, and other constituencies.
Must possess the ability to present a professional demeanor and maintain confidentiality while delivering a high level of internal and external customer service.
Creative, critical thinker with excellent and demonstrable multimedia design and production skills.
Excellent oral communication skills, and the ability to work diplomatically and gracefully with internal clients and external vendors.
Well-developed organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to effectively handle competing priorities and work well under pressure.
Ability to review and dissect information and can apply analytic concepts and calculations.
A Bachelor's degree with a major/minor in Communications, Graphic Design, Video Production, or a related field.
Significant (4+ years) experience in a related field.
Experience working in a Division I Intercollegiate Athletics environment.
Experience supporting a Women's Basketball program.
