Job Description Summary

The Aquatics Coordinator works directly with the Assistant Director of Aquatics & Adventure to conduct revenue producing programming and assist with the management of day-to-day operations for Penn Campus Recreation’s aquatic facility, the Sheerr Pool. This position would be the lead instructor for all Red Cross certification courses, including CPR certification courses for the fitness/wellness staff, Pottruck facility staff, and pro-staff members. In addition, the Coordinator would assist with overall Pottruck weekend coverage. The Coordinator would be expected to instruct aquatic programming classes/lessons as needed.

The Coordinator will cover shifts, serve as the first point of contact for staff, assist with program marketing and execution, record data collected by staff (chemical levels, usage data, lateness reports, etc.), and assist with other tasks as assigned. The Coordinator will also work towards needed certifications required to assist with the management of an aquatic facility. These certifications include CPO (certified pool operator), WSI, and PA Pesticide Certification with added aquatic credits.

Job Description


  • Facility Management: Conduct daily walk throughs; inspect and maintain inventory; manage pool access lists; coordinate w/ Swimming & Diving team; weekly chemical log/daily chemical level check; report facility issues.

  • Staffing: Serve as Sunday building supervisor; provide orientation for new staff; approve shift trades for temp staff; supervise job posting, interviewing, hiring, and payroll; manage WorkDay actions.

  • Programming: Instruct lessons and Red Cross courses as needed; supervise and audit lessons and classes; review lesson plans, manage client data sheets, and send lesson report cards.

  • Lifeguard: guard as needed; manage staffing, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, staff reports, safety audits and guard roster; set up and break down long course.

  • Administration & Communication: Monitor shared Aquatics email account; conduct EAP drills; assist with marketing; assist with program sales, data collection, and customer service.

  • Adventure: Assist with wall operation and special events; belay as needed.

  • Other duties & responsibilities as assigned.


Bachelor’s degree and 1 to 2 years of aquatic experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience conducting WSI swim lessons or the ability to obtain a WSI certification.

A valid American Red Cross Instructor Certification and a WSI (Water Safety Instructor) Certification is required or will need to be obtained with 60 days of hire.

Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as required.
