Position Summary:

NOTE: This position is located in Kannapolis, NC (approximately 2 hours from UNC’s main campus in Chapel Hill). Applicants must be able to relocate to Kannapolis.

One Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the lab of Saroja Voruganti identifying genetic and environmental factors that influence glycine and purine metabolism in humans at the UNC Nutrition Research Institute (NRI).

The NRI is located on the 350-acre North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, North Carolina, 14 miles from Charlotte, NC. The 125,000-square-foot building houses a broad variety of laboratory and research spaces, clinical facilities, offices, and meeting areas. Research at the NRI focuses on the underlying mechanisms for individual differences in metabolism and nutrient requirements. Current NRI faculty members study the role of epigenetics in progenitor cell proliferation, effects of diet on DNA and histone methylation, SNPs resulting in metabolic inefficiencies, energy metabolism, 1-carbon metabolism, brain development, fetal alcohol syndrome, obesity and carcinogenesis. NRI research is complemented by research programs from several other universities on the North Carolina Research Campus and by the state-of-the-art vivarium and stellar genomics and microscopy instrumentation in the David Murdock core laboratory building. Educational Requirements:

PhD in genetic epidemiology, molecular genetics, biochemistry, or other relevant field.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Demonstrated excellent analytical skills
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and cooperatively as part of a team
- Must have reliable transportation for offsite sample collection

-Relevant experience in molecular genetics & bioinformatics, data analyses, and presenting experimental results.
