Department Description:

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is the first and primary point of contact for all students seeking admission as undergraduates to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As the office charged with evaluating undergraduate candidates and enrolling the freshman and transfer classes of the University, the department is responsible for identifying, recruiting, admitting, and yielding students and for developing and applying policies consistent with those adopted by the Board of Trustees. Further, the office provides academic counseling, sponsors hundreds of events annually to encourage students to further their education and to enhance the image of the University among its broad constituencies, and serves as the only admitting office authorized to award academic degree credit to undergraduates. The work of the office is intensely public in nature and is closely scrutinized by students and their families; by secondary-school teachers and administrators; by lawmakers at the state, local, and national levels; by University faculty, staff, and students; and by local, regional, and national media.

Position Description:

The Recruitment Support Specialist in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will warmly welcome and provide great care to students, parents, and counselors who call, email, and visit the admissions office; counsel students about admission to Carolina; lead assigned projects; provide advice on delivering great care to colleagues and provide regular training support; provide administrative and processing support to the office; and perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to create a welcoming environment within a high-volume hospitality/student service environment; work well with colleagues, students, parents, and educators and treat all with great care; effectively prioritize work, manage time, and demonstrate attention to details; demonstrate sound judgment; speak and write clearly; solve problems; and think critically.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Must have customer service experience, and experience multi-tasking and meeting deadlines. Candidate should also possess excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organization and time management skills; and ability to problem-solve and apply policies and procedures to resolve complex situations. Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Windows is required, as well as experience performing detail-oriented data entry.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with the public in a university setting is preferred. Preferred candidate will have experience exercising independent judgment, as well as managing and coordinating workflow activities. Experience working with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact and communication duties that may be sensitive in nature preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
