The Department of Orthopaedics at the UNC School of Medicine provides teaching, clinical, research and service activities that benefit the UNC academic medical center and patients at the local, regional, State and national levels. The Orthopaedic Outpatient Clinics serve as the primary sites for the patient care, research and teaching activities of the UNC Department of Orthopaedic. The diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal problems are the services offered. In addition to general Orthopaedic care, the following subspecialty clinics are held: Adult Spine, Foot, and Ankle, Hand, and Microsurgery, Joint Replacement, Orthopaedics Tumors/Oncology, Pediatric Orthopaedics, OrthoNow (walk-in clinic for urgent Orthopaedic needs), Shoulder and Elbow, Sports Medicine, and Trauma and Fractures. Patients range in age from newborn to elderly, an in complexity from a simple, easily-treated problem to long-term treatment plans for patients with multiple diagnoses, whose care requires a multidisciplinary approach. Patients come from a wide geographic area and from every socioeconomic and educational background.

The primary purpose of this position will be to provide clerical and administrative support for the clinical, education and research activities of the department faculty. Duties include, but are not limited to: typing/composing patient letters, or other correspondence; phone coverage; faxes; maintaining physician Outlook calendars; coordinating travel arrangements; handling travel reimbursement and license renewals, as well as process fee reimbursements.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
This position requires a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and general office machinery. The selected candidate should be professional and have attention to detail. They should possess excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and strong customer service skills as a large portion of time is spent dealing with the public, university, hospital administration and referring physicians.Preferred Qualifications:
Healthcare administration experience in Orthopaedics or a related field.
Epic experience is a plus.
