Essential Job Duties:

Develop and research software and curricula to support K-16 students and teachers to teach and learn science, technology, engineering, math, and computer science. This person will be required to interweave interpersonal relationships with teachers, other institutions, State and Federal Agencies, and NC State faculty and take an active role in the Center for Educational Informatics. This person will direct projects, develop software, administer assessments and evaluation, collect, analyze, and present data, develop curricular materials and software, and supervise graduate and undergraduate students. Prior experience with modification of preexisting research code is required.

Duties & Responsibilities:
●Coordinates research projects and software development.
●Designs, develops, and maintains technologies for K16 STEM and computing education
●Builds software tools to support computing education and educators
●Collects, analyzes, and reports data
●Writes research manuscripts and reports.
•Design and develop algorithms and systems for data-driven tutoring and student support.
•Conceptualize and conduct short-term experiments and research activities in support of broad-based/longitudinal research projects, based in improving educational activities and individualized computer aided instruction through development and analysis of data-driven, adaptive systems;
•Conduct studies of related literature and research to support the design and implementation of related projects and development of reports, ensuring conceptual relevance and comprehensiveness of information;
•Write and publish papers and articles in peer-reviewed conferences/journals that highlight findings from research and experimental activities with the highest standards of academic publication and showcasing the Center’s scientific leadership;
•Develop collaborative links with scientific personnel in related areas to gain exposure to, and build knowledge on research activities and approaches;
•Utilize and expand on current methodologies in computer aided instruction, data mining, intelligent systems and education;
•Identify areas of improvement within the research structure through management of laboratory resources and personnel.
•Oversee day-to-day operations and students.
•Collect and analyze user information and feedback for the educational technologies we build

Other Work/Responsibilities:

Assist in the development of long-term plans for related educational technology and computer science education research at NCSU. Develop personal research proposals related to the work of the Center for Educational Informatics. Help to oversee student involvement in the lab and to organize lab functions. Operate with minimal management daily management direction but maintaining regular and open communications with the management team, partners, and constituency. Always documenting projects in a clear, concise and comprehensive manner complimented with periodic engagements with partners and collaborators. Provide support on as needed basis, to faculty teaching courses using developed software.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 8:00 - 5:00

oPhD in Computer Science, with focus on educational research

Programming, project management, scientific paper writing, software engineering, statistics, data analytics, able to write programs to prepare and transform data for processing, communication of scientific ideas, data mining in ill-defined domains, excellent time management, excellent communication.

•Education Level:
oPhD in Computer Science, with focus on educational research
•Training:
oLaboratory and field research/experimentation in computer science with a focus on educational/academic procedures and technologies
•Experience:
o2+ years experience developing, deploying, and testing intelligent and adaptive tutoring systems
o2+ years experience collecting, analyzing, and scaffolding educational data for creation of data-driven methodologies
oProficiency in object-oriented and web-based programming (JavaScript, CSS, HTML, Java, C++)
oProficiency in data-analysis tools and script construction (R, Weka, RapidMiner)
oExperience in managing development/analysis projects and team members
oPublications in related fields

$65,000 - $88,000 commensurate with education and experience
