General Summary of Position:

The Career & Co-op Center provides students and alumni with comprehensive career development support to successfully transition from their academic pursuits to their career goals by promoting and facilitating career education, exploration of options and connections with employers. The Career & Co-op Center is a part of the Division of Student Affairs & University Events. This is a dynamic division involved in key university-wide strategic initiatives, such as experiential learning, corporate engagement, retention, and diversity and inclusion.

As a career services professional, the Assistant Director provides direct career counseling/coaching, education, and guidance to students and alumni through individual appointments, workshops, and career events. Assists in providing oversight of career development activities and special projects, including but not limited to working with assigned liaison areas and engaging in office marketing.



Counsel, advise, educate, & coach students and alumni on a wide range of career development topics including, but not limited to major selection, career assessment, job search coaching, experiential education opportunities, graduate school planning, career management, and career decision-making.

Develop & present workshops, seminars, panels and other events to encourage informed career decision making, effective job search practices, and self-awareness.

Recommend, administer, & interpret vocational assessment tools to build a client’s self-awareness and to discuss as part of a client’s job selection, career fit, work performance and career success.


Assist the Director and Associate Director in leading the development, planning and implementation of career-related programs, including but not limited to educational workshops, information sessions, and career panels.

Actively partner with assigned liaison areas to develop and deliver relevant career development programs and resources. Liaison areas will include academic departments, as well as administrative offices that support student success.


Assist director and associate director in overall promotion of the Career & Co-op Center.

Develop and implement strategies to market department programs, services, and opportunities.

Provide leadership and assistance with departmental events.


Collaborate with campus constituencies, particularly faculty, staff and students to forward the message and mission of the Career & Co-op Center.

Serve as liaison to assigned academic and administrative units.

Support campus events and initiatives through participation in committees, work groups, etc.

Gain knowledge of employment trends in key industries and communicate that information, in particular to department staff, and more generally to faculty, staff, and students throughout the University.

Engage industry professionals in career development activities.

Candidate should be flexible to work evenings and occasional weekends, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):


  • Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, or related field


  • Minimum of three years of related professional experience in career development, experiential education, student development, employer relations and/or university relations, including at least one year in a higher education setting


  • Career-related counseling/advising, communication (written, verbal, interpersonal), and teaching/presenting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver career advising for diverse populations through individual, drop-in, and group appointments; workshops; and other programs
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and develop relationships with clients as well as faculty and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology in work with clients as well as administrative work
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate efforts for collaboration and delivery of services
