Dean College's School of Business is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach Media Writing I during the fall semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds. Adjuncts should be prepared to be flexible; they should be prepared to teach the entire semester face-to-face, however, knowing that they may need to pivot to synchronous online instruction and/or accommodate students who may need to isolate for a period during the course.
We are seeking an adjunct instructor for COM-211: Media Writing I. COM-211 is a 3-credit class that meets for 2.5 hours/week. The adjunct pay rate is $3,200/section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The Business program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. While Dean's intent is to hold classes face-to-face in the Fall. All faculty will be expected to make active use of the learning management system, Canvas, at least at a minimum level established by the college.
The course description is as follows:
This course focuses on the development of writing skills for radio, television, film, and emerging media. Students will gain experience in writing commercials, public service announcements, script writing (fiction and documentary) and broadcast journalism. It is a writing intensive course.
There is one COM-211 section available. It is scheduled to meet:
Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 12:20PM - 1:10PM.
- A Master's Degree in Communications or a related field, required;
- PhD, preferred;
- COVID-19 Vaccination, required;
- Experience teaching at the college level both in person and online, required;
- Experience teaching first and second year undergraduates, preferred;
- Strong computer skills, required;
- Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools, required;
- Experience with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system, and classroom media, required;
- Expertise in learner-centered teaching, required;
- Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy, required;
- Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required.
