The incumbent's research will focus on numerical ice sheet modeling across various timescales. Specifically, the incumbent will be:

  • Applying the state-of-the-art Ice Sheet and Sea-level System Model (ISSM) to simulate the history of the Greenland Ice Sheet across the Holocene and up to the year 2100.
  • Applying the state-of-the-art Ice Sheet and Sea-level System Model (ISSM) to simulate the history of the Patagonia Ice Sheet across the last deglaciation, in order to better understand the influence of ice loading history on volcanism.
  • Working closely with glacial geologists and geophysicists to benchmark ice sheet simulations against a range of geologic proxy data of past ice sheet size (e.g. moraine records, relative sea-level records).
  • Advancing the capabilities of ISSM in modeling over paleoclimate timescales through improvements in the estimation of surface mass balance, treatment of marine terminating margins, and model-data benchmarking capabilities
