Position Description
We seek an experienced scientist to advance our research at the University of California, Los Angeles Department of Neurosurgery in the laboratory of Dr. Neil Harris.

Dr. Harris's laboratory studies traumatic brain injury in preclinical models. The research focuses on structural and functional circuit alterations due to injury and the impact of potential therapies and rehabilitation on recovery of function. The lab uses numerous in vivo imaging tools (MRI, 2-photon microscopy and functional ultrasound) and behavior, as well as electrophysiology in collaboration with other labs. The successful candidate will be responsible for data analytics including statistical analysis, supervising graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and undergraduate student researchers, preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, and assisting with the preparation of grant proposals.

Specific Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this position include study design, data acquisition and analysis, statistical computation, and literature review and manuscript/grant preparation.

Applicants must have a PhD or MD or both. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the following areas: computer science and signal processing (using Python, Matlab, R, Bash) and ideally one or more of: in vivo imaging, neurophysiology, and rodent handling.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to work independently on scientific projects
  • Required to communicate well with other scientists.
  • Candidate should have 5 years' research experience in neuroscience in an academic setting or equivalent.
  • The candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal supervision.
