The Associate Vice Chancellor, Development (AVC) is responsible for providing vision and leadership for campus-based development programs as well as overseeing Central Advancement development including Major/Principal Gifts and Strategic Initiatives. The AVC will Collaborate with Associate Vice Chancellor, Health Advancement and Campus Development Officers to coordinate donor priorities across UCI ensuring philanthropic aspirations are identified and managed in a unified and strategic manner across the campus. This role is responsible for personally leading a staff of five fundraising professionals and managing a portfolio of leadership donors, cultivating and soliciting prospects at the $1 million level and above with an annual fundraising goal of $5 million, and will play a key role in the planning, execution and direction of UC Irvine's Brilliant Future campaign. The AVC will share in the group's success of approximately $15-20M annually.

Ten (10) years or more of demonstrated and documented experience with development program planning, including principal gifts and senior management. Proven track record of success leading large advancement operations. Demonstrated progressively increasing responsibility in fundraising roles, including managing annual giving and major gifts as well as experience planning and implementing a multi-million campaign. Proven history of major donor portfolio management, as well as the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts from individuals and from corporations and foundations.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Advanced political acumen skills.

Advanced knowledge of the campus and / or medical center, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives and issues of concern both on campus and / or medical center as well as in higher education, research and medical care or clinical operations.

Knowledge and understanding of shared academic governance and its relationship to an effective fundraising program in higher education.

Advanced skills to conceive, design, implement and evaluate effective fundraising programs.

Advanced knowledge of leadership and management principles, concepts, techniques, etc.

Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.

Advanced strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical and persuasion / negotiation skills.

Familiarity with the key issues facing public higher education, particularly as they impact a public research university, is required.

Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations, including principles, concepts, techniques and procedures.

Advanced leadership / management skills, including skills to select, train, mentor, motivate and evaluate all levels of staff.

Advanced skills to meet predetermined goals and objectives, including securing gifts and meeting fundraising objectives.

Working knowledge of the principles and practices of development in a major research University setting.

Advanced knowledge of design and implementation of identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies and techniques.


Advanced marketing skills.

Working knowledge of salesforce software.

Special Conditions Required:

Will be required to drive to perform the routine or essential job responsibilities. Must possess CA driver license and participate in the CA DMV Pull Notice Program. Will work occasional evenings and weekends.
