From day one, the Associate Vice President, HR Strategy & Operations (AVP) will have an immediate impact as a member of the Department of Human Resources leadership team and will be responsible for the oversight and administration of human resource services and leading a team of HR Centers of Expertise including talent acquisition, employee and labor relations, learning and development, compensation & classification, HRIS and HR partnerships.

What we are looking for:
  • A person with a solid understanding of organizational development, talent development and management, employment law, staffing, compensation, employee relations and labor relations.
  • An exceptional project and program planner, with the ability to present those plans verbally and in writing to executives of all levels in the organization.
  • A champion willing to model the Mission, Vision and Values of the HR Department.


Objectives of this Role:
  • Work closely with internal and external partners to provide subject matter expertise and guidance in all areas of human resources and will contribute to the development and implementation of the Department of Human Resources strategic plan, goals and initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key department and functional leaders serving as a trusted partner and thought leader on human resource issues and work closely with internal and external partners to provide subject matter expertise and guidance for a comprehensive range of HR Services.
  • Provide oversight and administration of the HR Centers of Expertise that support the employee lifecycle and development including compensation & classification, talent acquisition, employee and labor relations, learning and development, HRIS and HR partnerships/client engagement.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Department of Human Resources strategic planning goals and initiatives.
  • Oversee the development and expansion of learning and talent strategy to enable internal development, workforce planning and preparedness, and partnerships to meet the needs of the organization.


Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for Human Resources functions, ensuring alignment with the mission of the institution.
  • Responsible for overseeing the design and development of processes, strategic programs and initiatives that enhance organizational performance and the employee experience.
  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership on the effective and timely execution of HR programs and initiatives.
  • Work with partners to ensure university-wide talent and performance management programs are focused and aligned on improving operational and program efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Provide guidance and input on department restructures, change initiatives, talent development and the succession planning process that help the university prepare for the workforce of the future.


Work Interactions

The AVP, HR Strategy & Operations reports directly to the VP & CHRO along with the AVP, Benefits, Payroll and Wellness, Chief of Staff and Executive Assistant. The AVP, HR Strategy & Operations will provide supervision to the organizational units within the Department of Human Resources Centers of Expertise. The AVP is a member of the HR Leadership Team and will interact with senior leadership, Office of the COO leadership, other campus leadership, and colleagues in the Office of IDEAA, General Counsel, and any units necessary to advance the HR agenda.

Qualifications
  • An advanced degree in human resources, management, law, business/public administration or a related field is required.
  • At least 7-10 years of executive-level experience resulting in comprehensive knowledge of human resources operations, programs, technology, and service delivery in a complex, highly decentralized organizational setting.
  • Must have the ability to use data, metrics and peer comparisons for decision making purposes.
  • Human Resources certification (PHR/SPHR) and specific managerial experience within the higher education setting are strongly preferred.
