Kimbel Library at Coastal Carolina University welcomes applications for a Collection Strategies Librarian to coordinate management, budgeting, acquisition and cataloging of electronic resources and monographs. This is a 12-month tenure-track position at the Assistant Librarian level.
Reporting to the Head of Information Technology and Collections, this position supervises two staff members and is responsible for managing the complex life cycles of electronic resources and providing seamless access to the Library’s online journals, databases, streaming video, and ebooks. This is a tenure-track faculty position; substantial on-the-job experience and access to training and professional development opportunities is available. Academic expression for this position is accomplished through contributions to teaching, publication, research or service to the profession of librarianship.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and manage a robust collection of electronic books and journals, article databases, streaming media, monographs, and other resources in support of curriculum and stakeholder needs. Establish and develop workflows, processes, and best practices for resource acquisition cataloging/description, licensing, and assessment. Manage collections budget; monitors and tracks resource allocations and expenditures. Continually analyze and optimize resource discovery; provide e-resource troubleshooting with a team to ensure access by the user community. Act as primary point of communications with vendors, publishers, consortia, and library faculty/staff. Negotiate license terms with vendors and publishers, ensuring contract compliance and maintaining ongoing electronic resource agreements. Gather and analyze collections metrics to support recommendations and decision-making. Participates in professional development and keeps up-to-date on current collections, electronic resources, and discovery trends. Required qualifications: Master’s degree in library science or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent degree. Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills. Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work creatively and effectively in both collaborative and independent settings. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to explain complex concepts to a wide range of users in individual and group settings. Preferred qualifications: Familiarity with library services and discovery platforms. Knowledge of electronic resource management and access. Familiarity with license review. Knowledge of copyright issues, scholarly communication development, or open access initiatives.

Kimbel Library is in the beginning stages of significant change, growth, and opportunity. We will soon begin construction on a new, state of the art library learning complex this year that will host a maker space, data visualization, and VR labs, quickly followed by a ground-up redesign of our existing library facility with newly re-envisioned study spaces featuring a new space for Archives and Special Collections. We have recently reorganized our areas of operation and are hiring new positions to support this new concept of the 21st century library and its corresponding service models, workflows, and spaces.
