Vice President for Human Resources and Equal Opportunity

Coastal Carolina University is accepting applications for the Vice President for Human Resources and Equal Opportunity (Administrator).

Reporting to the President, this position serves as the chief human resources officer for Coastal Carolina University and a part of the President’s Cabinet. In this capacity, the Vice President for Human Resources and Equal Opportunity provides oversight for the Human Resources and Equal Opportunity division of the University by providing strategic planning, leadership, management, and executive level leadership of the human resources and equal opportunity department for Coastal Carolina University, which include employment, classification/compensation, employee benefits, performance management, employee relations, equal opportunity, HR operations, and HR policy administration. The Vice President assures compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and laws.

A successful candidate must demonstrate strong knowledge in the following areas:
•Understanding of the higher education landscape;
•Principles and practices of human resources management;
•Federal laws and state regulations affecting human resources management; and,
•Management and organizational concepts.

A successful candidate must demonstrate abilities in the following areas:
•Handling highly confidential information;
•Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships;
•Analysis of needs and resources;
•Recommending and communicating solutions effectively;
•Exercising judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting a variety of policies and procedures; and,
•Directing and advising technical staff members.

A successful candidate must possess the following:
•Strong attention to detail;
•Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity and respect for individual needs;
•Excellent customer service skills with a commitment to work as part of a University-wide community; and,
•Demonstrated commitment to diversity and success in working with diverse constituencies (preferably both domestic and international) to support an equitable and inclusive campus environment.

Duties include, but are not limited to: provide executive level leadership for all human resources and equal opportunity functions for the University in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and University policies and procedures; serve as chief human resources officer implementing plans and making decisions in all matters relating to HR management, including the Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action (EEO/AA) plan; recommend, lead the development of, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing levels to accomplish University goals as outlined in the mission and strategic plan; provide advice and guidance to senior management and University employees on personnel related policies and procedures and participates in the development of University goals and strategic planning in relation to HR and trends in HR management; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Advanced degree in human resources, business administration or related field and at least 5 years’ experience demonstrating increasing levels of leadership responsibilities within human resources programs are required.

Required Qualifications:
