Salary Information:

Starting salary: $87,804 (work experience and meeting the desired qualifications listed may be considered in setting a salary above the minimum)

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of DEI, assist the Director with the implementation of the DMACC DEI Strategic Plan, specifically as it relates to priorities involving students. Work to develop and execute curricular and co-curricular initiatives for students of color, first generation students, LGBTQ+ students, and other historically underrepresented student populations as they work toward their academic, leadership, and career goals. Design, administer, and assess inclusive student programming to enhance and reinforce academic engagement and experiential learning. Provide support across all campuses of the college in the support of DMACC’s mission, strategic plan, and commitment to DEI; work collaboratively with internal constituencies as well as high school counselors and community-based organizations to develop engagement opportunities that will positively impact recruitment, retention, engagement, and persistence of underrepresented students; develop collaborative programs that explore identity; address current events as they impact multicultural communities and recognize intersectionality; develop and implement a comprehensive program of activities, civic engagement, mentorship, and academic support to promote the academic and social success of historically underrepresented students; and facilitate student dialogues on complex issues related to campus climate, current events, and trends.

Essential Functions:

Assess and monitor the recruitment, enrollment, academic achievement and retention rates of DMACC students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in college, to include but not limited to race/ethnicity, first-generation, LGBTQ+, refugee and immigrant students, and students with disabilities. Collaborate with Admissions Department regarding recruitment of students of color and serve as a resource when prospective students visit DMACC. Collaborate with Admissions to develop and host annual visit programs for students historically underrepresented backgrounds. Partner with various college departments, faculty, staff, and alumni to connect first-generation students and those from historically underrepresented populations to programs, services, workshops, and resources, including but not limited to academic advising, counseling, career readiness, wellness, and study abroad. Serve as a resource and guide for students and the college community.

Develop, support, collaborate, and facilitate workshops regarding student success, academic support, identity-development, leadership, community, and belonging. Coordinate outreach, honoring, and celebration regarding identity activities such as cultural heritage months and National Coming Out Day. Assist in the marketing and promotion of departmental, institutional, and community resources through various mediums, including website, e-newsletter, social media, etc. Establish and promote intentional dialogues, difficult conversations, respectful discourse, empathetic listening pertaining to campus, local, national, and global issues. Coordinate programming for diversity including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability, socio-economic, class, religion, spirituality programs that establish and maintain opportunities for structured dialogue focused on civil discourse and understanding. Supporting growing initiatives and programming to engage and support LGBTQ+ students. Support cultural, religious, and identity-based student clubs for program and event planning. Create a mentor program for historically underrepresented students to engage a diverse group of students, alumni, faculty, and staff.

Implement strategic objectives and develop mechanisms for monitoring, assessing, benchmarking, reporting, and measuring progress of the recruitment, retention, success, and completion of students from historically underrepresented populations. Track and assess the impact of office programs and initiatives to student retention and success. Develop policies, communications (i.e. electronic, written, web, social media), and services across locations that facilitate a campus community that respects, incorporates, and advances diversity, equity, and pluralism.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and at least four years of successful experience in program administration, teaching, leadership, training and development, or other related areas.

Strong communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to create and maintain inclusive, supportive programs and accessible resources for underrepresented students.

Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with students, campus partners, faculty, and the community.

Experience with the development and implementation of recruitment and communication strategies for underrepresented students.

Desired Qualifications:

Community college experience.

Experience facilitating conversations around power, privilege, oppression, and identity.

Background in retention theories, assessment, and/or higher education access with an applied working knowledge of privilege and anti-oppressive frameworks.

Ability to communicate effectively across cultures and within a team.

Creativity and resourcefulness in completing tasks and advancing the work of the office.
