Nature of Work

The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC) is a multi-disciplinary diabetes center located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.  The BDC is affiliated with the University of Colorado Denver’s School of Medicine.   This is a full-time (40 hours per week) Research Associate within the Laboratory of Dr. Liping Yu.  The duties include both management responsibilities and wet laboratory techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is a position requiring an enthusiasm for medical research and knowledge or interest in diabetes.  The candidate will be self-directed and independent with good organizational skills.  Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are also required.  This person will need to work with the Principal Investigator (PI) to design research studies, be willing to learn new techniques including development of new autoantibody assays and identification of new biomarkers, and be able to handle multiple projects at one time with accuracy and proficiency, in addition to conscientious attention to detail. 

Duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 

    Prepare research manuscripts, grants, and presentations in collaboration with the PI.Design research studies such as diabetes autoantibodies and risk prediction of type 1 diabetes, new biomarkers in diabetes.Improve current laboratory autoantibody assays and develop new assays to meet the needs of large scale population screening.Look for new biomarkers to help better prediction for type 1 diabetes.Participate in study meetings and training laboratory personnel in conducting research.Data organization, management, analysis, and database maintenance utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel & Access programs.
    Develop laboratory research protocols in collaboration with the PI.
    cDNA cloning and amplification.Conducting experiments Radio-binding assay, ELISA, Electrochemiluminescence assay, and HLA genotyping.                                                                                                
Working Conditions

This position works typically Monday-Friday eight-hours/day. Occasional weekends to accommodate schedules and experiments may be needed. The position will be located at the Barbara Davis Center on the University of Colorado Denver, Anschutz medical campus in Aurora, CO.


Salary Range for this position

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $50,000 to $56,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.


The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD degree in biology, biochemistry, immunology, or a life science field.

Previous experience in research laboratory of life science over 5 years.    


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior publications of research articles in a basic/translational science field.
