The Department of Anthropology, the Department of Sociology, and the Department of Health and Society at the University of Toronto Scarborough consist of award-winning faculty who combine active and productiveresearch programs with teaching innovation and excellence. Your opportunity:

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Finance and Administration, the incumbent will work alongside the Chair and/or Associate Chair of the Departments of Anthropology, Sociology, and Health and Society to support various activities related to the knowledge translation (KT) and knowledge mobilization (KM) activities of the three departments. The incumbent will contribute strategic perspective to and support departmental and faculty KT|KM; coordinate research communication efforts across multiple audiences including students, media, scholarly communities, and alumni and will establish and maintain a research-focused social media presence for the three units. The incumbent will also contribute to the development of a strategic communication plan for each department unit ensuring alignment with research and curricular goals of the unit, UTSC and UofT. Additional duties will include but are not limited to writing, designing, and publishing materials (ex. recruitment) for variable platforms; producing and maintaining web content; and liaising with the UTSC Communications Office to ensure all communications are complementary and create synergy between each unit and the University.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing communication plans that support outreach goals and objectives
  • Advising clients on marketing and advertising strategies for multimedia channels
  • Researching and identifying opportunities to promote programs and initiatives
  • Promoting programs and service offerings to internal and/or external contracts
  • Implementing community relations outreach plans for target audiences
  • Liaising with contacts to facilitate collaboration and consistency of communications
  • Analyzing data to determine trends and recommend target markets
  • Implementing digital communications plans across a broad range of marketing/communications channels

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in communications, public relations or marketing or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum 4 years of direct related experience in coordinating marketing and communication strategies across multiple audiences, ideally in a post secondary setting
  • Proven experience in graphic design and managing social media accounts
  • Experience producing, developing and maintaining web content through content management systems (e.g. Drupal, WordPress)
  • Experience coordinating seminars and other public events
  • Demonstrated experience writing, designing, editing, proof reading and publishing content for online and in-person platforms
  • Ability to understand complex information and concepts and successfully translate them into clear, concise and compelling messages
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, graphic design and image editing software (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), research and presentation skills
  • Must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills who can also work independentlyto meet tight deadlines with accountability and minimal supervision
  • Able to professionally and tactfully liaise with colleagues in the department as well as central departments, such as the UTSC communications office

USW Pay Band 11 -- $66,326 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $84,818. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
