Job Summary The Associate/Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Academics assumes responsibility for oversight and of the administration of a comprehensive compliance program while preforming under the direction of the Director of Athletics with a dotted reporting line to the University President. In addition to the oversight of academics, eligibility and student-athlete services, this position’s duties include, but are not limited to the implementation and maintenance of the NCAA and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) policies and procedures; directs the education and training of student athletes, coaches, staff members, campus entities, and SSU administration regarding NCAA compliance; works in conjunction with the University Registrar (and/or designee) for NCAA eligibility with the determination of initial- transfer and continuing-eligibility; interprets and applies NCAA legislation to fact-specific scenarios; develops programs to enhance the overall student-athlete experience at SSU; monitors admissions status of incoming student-athletes, full-time enrollment for current student-athletes, and team rosters across multiple campus databases; directs the completion of yearly NCAA reports (e.g., Academic Success Rate, NCAA Sports Sponsorship, Graduation Success Rate); oversees the daily compliance operations of designated teams; and manages day-to-day compliance office responsibilities; monitors compliance with applicable NCAA and SIAC rules and bylaws; and reports NCAA violations. This position also serves as the liaison to several department and on-campus committees in representation of the Department of Athletics. This position has sports oversight.


    Advises student athletes on academic issues, degree planning and academic eligibilityMonitors and collects data for NCAA reportsDevelops and coordinates academic certification for continuing and transfer studentsDevelop, implement, educate and monitor in conformance with NCAA reporting requirementsCommunicate to and advise SSU staff and student athletics regarding all applicable SSU and NCAA rules and policiesMonitor performance relative to applicable rules and policies; investigate and report on possible infractions.Direct student athletics as appropriate toward assistance with financial aid, academics and general needs that can be provided through SSUMay monitor recruiting actions and assist in the administration and monitoring of the National Letter of Intent programMonitor and administer various compliance related programsPerform other related duties
Required Qualifications A bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree is preferred. Minimum five years of compliance experience at a NCAA Division I, II or III institution and/or conference office. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of and monitoring, interpretation of compliance with all applicable rules and regulations governing SSU athletic programs. Also requires use of related computer applications and interpersonal, communications and presentation skills.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Must possess strong organizational skills and demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding recruitment, eligibility and financial aid. Experience working with culturally diverse populations. Excellent written and oral communications skills required, along with ability to maintain confidentiality and commitment to integrity.
