Position Details:

The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine in Spokane, Washington invites applications for a full-time non-tenure, Clinical track position in the area of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology in Spokane, WA.

The Clinical Assistant Professor general teaching duties include: instructing students; preparing course materials; interacting with students; developing and conducting tests; evaluating students including grading; establishing and keeping regular office hours; and assisting students with questions and academic development. Specific to this position, the Clinical Assistant Professor will be responsible for both traditional didactic (i.e., classroom based) and experiential instruction within the Master of Science, Coordinated Program in Dietetics, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology (MS CPD), to meet the Accreditation Counsel in Education for Dietetics and Nutrition (ACEND) requirements to test for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential. The faculty member will also be expected to offer trainings to preceptors, as needed, regarding program needs and expectations for student experiential activities.

80% - Teaching

General teaching duties include: instructing students; preparing course materials; interacting with students; developing and conducting tests; evaluating students including grading; establishing and keeping regular office hours; and assisting students with questions and academic development.

Specific to this position, the Clinical Assistant Professor will be responsible for both traditional didactic (i.e., classroom based) and experiential instruction within the Master of Science, Coordinated Program in Dietetics, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology (MS CPD), to meet the Accreditation Council in Education for Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) requirements to test for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential.

10% Research/Scholarship

Engage in collaborative research opportunities in the broad field of nutritional sciences with clinical and/or epidemiologic applications. Presentation of research findings at professional conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals. In conjunction with the MS CPD Program Director, design evaluations of the experiential learning sites and conduct visits to the program’s experiential sites on a regular, consistent, and systematic basis to ensure the learning environments meet or exceed quality standards.

5% Service

Participate in department, college, and/or university committees; service to the profession (e.g., ACEND).

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in nutrition or closely related area.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) (by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)).
  • Minimum three (3) years of work experience in clinical dietetics.

Preferred Qualifications:

An earned terminal degree (PhD) in human nutrition, nutritional sciences, or related field, and experience relevant to the position. Candidates in ABD status are eligible to apply, but the terminal degree must be earned prior to the negotiated start date.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
