Position SummaryLearning Technologies & Environments (LTE) provides vision and leadership to support excellence in teaching and learning through active learning environments, pedagogical research, and learner-centered technologies. Partnerships with faculty, academic leaders, and campus stakeholders, as well regional, national and international higher education and industry partners, enable innovation and documentation of results focusing on improving student success. LTE enhances and facilitates the campus IT user experience through four main areas: Academic Technology Research & Strategic Initiatives; the Accessible Technology Initiative; Instructional Technology Services; and IT User Services. Instructional Technology Services (ITS) provides support and leadership to the university in the development of strategies that facilitate the successful uses of technologies to enhance teaching and learning, create effective learning environments, and facilitate research and learning innovations. Instructional Technology Services is made up of 23 staff and two administrators.Under general supervision of the Associate Director of Learning Spaces and Faculty Support, the Learning Spaces Support Technician provides classroom support to faculty, primarily in the evenings. As a member of the ITS Learning Spaces group, this position assists with the construction, maintenance, and support of classroom technology systems. The Learning Spaces Support Technician assists with day-to-day operations of ITS’s equipment loan service.The Learning Spaces Support Technician will provide consultative support and services to the user community to ensure problem resolution, system/data access, and optimal system performance via telephone or on-site support. They assist users to use applications and software packages and their features, and Install, configure, and modify applications. The Learning Spaces Support Technician will ensure that equipment and systems in assigned areas are in good condition and are properly maintained, perform preventative maintenance, equipment alignment, and calibration, replace or repair worn parts, evaluate replacement alternatives, perform equipment and system setup (including necessary interconnections) and performance monitoring, maintain and repair media/video production equipment systems and facilities, provide technical set-up of teleconferencing systems, and maintain technical shop facilities, inventory, repair logs and/or work order systems. The Learning Spaces Support Technician will service user equipment or systems quickly and efficiently with minimal disruption, diagnose equipment and/or system malfunctions and perform corrective action, pre-test and configure equipment and/or systems following service procedures, research system/equipment malfunction history, and analyze and adjust equipment to restore proper operation.For more information regarding Information Technology, click here.This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits-eligible, temporary position for 12 months from the date of hire with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Work hours are Monday – Thursday, 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Friday 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.Minimum QualificationsTo enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical systems and equipment is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through an associate of arts degree in electronics, telecommunications, or industrial technology or equivalent education, training, and/or directly related experience. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Equipment/Systems Specialist include a basic knowledge of electronic (digital or analog) theories, mechanical design, and understanding of the operation and use of the equipment and systems commonly utilized in the assigned area.Specialized Skills Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and administratorsAbility to communicate clearly, both orally and in writingAbility to analyze situations accurately and take appropriate actionClassroom EquipmentKnowledge of analog and digital technologies and the ability to appropriately apply them in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of smart classroom systemsKnowledge of and experience with a broad range of computer hardware and software products, including both Mac and Windows operating systems and the Microsoft Office suiteAbility to configure and interconnect smart classroom equipment and systemsAbility to operate, maintain and troubleshoot smart classroom equipment, software, and systems.Ability to diagnose equipment and/or system malfunctions and perform corrective actionAbility to train college facilitators, and ITS student assistants on smart classroom system installation, troubleshooting, and maintenanceTraining and User SupportAbility to apply consultative skills to assess user needs and provide appropriate supportAbility to apply interpersonal and communication skills in working with staff and users to assess needs and provide solutionsLicenses and/or Certifications Required:California driver’s licensePreferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related fieldExperience in the operation and maintenance of a broad range of audio and video equipment, including distribution and projection systems.One or more years of experience providing academic technology support in a higher education setting.Compensation and BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,555 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,388 - $6,744 per month.
