The division is responsible for ensuring a safe and productive campus environment while providing the highest quality service in support of academic excellence through thoughtful stewardship of financial, technological, infrastructure, and human resources at San Diego State University.The Department of Facilities Services (FS) is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel, and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university. Facilities Services employs over 200 employees (full-time and students) and supports approximately eight million square feet of buildings (including residence halls and parking structures) and 280 acres of improved and unimproved land with an operating budget of approximately twelve million dollars.Housing Facilities Services is a sub-division of the Office of Housing Administration providing facilities support for residential students. The Associate Director for Housing Facilities Services’ primary client is the Office of Housing Administration (OHA). OHA is responsible for planning, providing, and administering housing services and facilities for nearly 6,000 students. This includes the operation of residence halls and apartments, off-campus housing, and conference housing. The OHA supports the educational mission of the Residential Education Office (REO) while providing the business operations for all housing-related functions in support of a quality environment to enhance the student's educational experience. The OHA staff consists of approximately 25 employees and generates annual revenues of nearly $75,000,000.The Associate Director is a member of the Office of Housing Administration leadership team. In conjunction with the Executive Director, Associate Directors, other managers, staff, and students, this position assists in carrying out the mission, vision, and values, of the Office of Housing Administration and is responsible for supporting and contributing to an atmosphere that facilitates respect, inclusivity, collaboration, and growth.The Associate Director is the principal campus administrator for maintenance and custodial services to the residential facilities: manages all activities and programs that support residential maintenance and repair services (fire and life safety systems, maintenance, preventive maintenance, construction activities, maintenance contracts); manages personnel, activities, and programs that support the delivery of service to residents during the academic year and the delivery of summer conference services. The Associate Director for Housing Facilities Services supervises the maintenance and custodial team of 39 full-time staff, approximately 40 temporary summer staff, and 12 academic year student staff. This position also implements an annual maintenance, custodial, and project budget of nearly $6 million.The Associate Director is responsible for the seamless support of facilities for on-campus residents in state-owned properties, master-leased properties, and Public-Private Partnership properties, as well as the facilities support for the summer conference center. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.Candidate QualificationsBachelor's Degree in business administration, public administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experienceFive years of progressively responsible management experience in residential services, custodial services, or facilities managementDemonstrated experience directing and managing a diverse workforce involved in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of a large multi-building or congregate living facilityDemonstrated experience managing complex work scheduling and coordination and service contracting for university housing environment or similar large, complex facilities maintenance operationA strong commitment to diversity and inclusion with demonstrated success working effectively with diverse individuals and communitiesLicenses and Certifications RequiredA valid California driver’s license is requiredPreferred Qualifications Management experience in a collective bargaining environmentLEED AP (may be obtained within two years of employment)CEFP (may be obtained within four years of employment)Compensation and BenefitsSan Diego State University will offer a competitive salary based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
