Organizational Unit Overview:

The Department of Surgery is a clinical department within the School of Medicine with the attendant responsibility for medical education and research. The Chair of the department is also the Chief of Surgical services for the hospital. The department includes 36 full-time faculty members in the sections of: transplant surgery, plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, surgical oncology, general and bariatric surgery, and trauma and acute care surgery. It also includes clinical and basic science research labs. The 70+ employees in the department support our clinical, education and research programs.
The Department of Surgery at East Carolina University is dedicated to providing state of the art care to patients in eastern North Carolina. The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center (VMC).

Job Duties :

The Department of Surgery is seeking a Nurse Specialist to work in our busy General and Bariatric Surgery outpatient clinic. The key responsibilities of the position include coordination of all preoperative and postoperative care, outpatient clinic coordination, patient and family education, and communication with all members of the health care team.

CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION – NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing experience, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

The ideal candidate will possess outstanding clinical and communication skills. Surgical experience is desired.
