General Summary

Work closely with fellow Orientation GA to functionally supervise undergraduate orientation staff in day-to-day office operations.
Facilitate team meetings with undergraduate student staff, including 1:1 meetings as needed.
Supervise the Orientation team (O-team) throughout the EMU Orientation and EMU Connect programs.
Plan and implement O-team training curriculum (including O-team retreat), in collaboration with campus partners.
Collaborate with Event Planning to reserve locations for O-team recruitment and training events.
Assist with recruitment, program delivery, and assessment of orientation and transition programs.
Oversee marketing and design of recruitment materials by writing and working with student staff to develop creative recruitment strategies.
Assist with preparing documentation and payment for orientation-related purchases (e.g. giveaways, t-shirts, rentals).
Maintain inventory of orientation supplies and promotional materials.
Work with office staff to maintain and respond to orientation email and voicemail.
Conduct research and benchmarking of orientation and transition activities when appropriate.
Fulfill other duties as assigned.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

EMU Orientation Specific Responsibilities
Assist in planning process of EMU Orientation and EMU Orientation Online
Collaborate with campus partners to organize information sessions held during EMU Orientation
Create and facilitate presentations for EMU Orientation days and EMU Connect commuter student and family sessions
Provide assistance to students and guests who have questions or concerns about program events
Oversee and support Student Assistants and O-team in daily tasks, such as checking in students, assisting in finding groups, and in communication with campus partners
Compile information from Campus Partners into supplementary program materials.
Recruit, select, train, and supervise the logistical team (SWAT) of about 10 students which works with EMU Connect
Provide support, as needed, for the EMU Connect program, including overseeing SWAT.

EMU Connect Responsibilities
Supervise 100+ Connect Group Leaders (CGLs) during the week of training leading up to EMU Connect.
Maintaining room reservations and building contracts for specific EMU Connect events. This includes collaborating with EMU DPS, Dining, and Event Planning.
Assist in conducting CGL recruitment including interviewing and selection process.
Coordinate with O-team, undergraduate staff, and campus partners the curriculum for CGL training.
Supervise team professional development programs (like Fire up! & Summer Leadership Development) in order to maintain CGL retention & engagement throughout summer break

Qualifications

Ability to work up to 20 hours per week is required.

GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.

Admission and enrollment in a graduate program is required.

Maintenance of a 67% course completion is required.

Enrollment in at least 6 credits for Fall and Winter semesters is required.

For a full-time GA appointment, the University provides a tuition scholarship for up to 18 credit hours in each academic year (September 1 to August 31) of the assistantship.

For graduate assistants who are appointed to part-time positions and for GAs who begin employment after the start of the semester, the number of credit hours covered by the award will be prorated.
