Minimum Qualifications:

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary:

Skilled manual and technical work at near journeyman level in multiple trades skills. This individual will possess basic skills in the electric, plumbing, building automation, carpenter, paint and numerous other skilled trades. This individual will be responsible for inspecting, making minor repairs and assisting fully skilled tradesmen in the performance of all facets of building maintenance and/or construction. Work is performed under the general supervision of a shop foreman, may on occasion involve the supervisor of trades helpers, and may on occasion work beyond normal duty hours resulting from emergency or high priority work.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

  • Possess a service-oriented temperament.
  • Be able to complete work requests, fill out work order forms, and have a good working relationship with others.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards of: tools and equipment associated with maintenance activities and mechanical and electrical building equipment.
  • Ability to use standard hand tools and equipment as common to the mechanical trades.

Physical Demands:

  • Lift 75 lbs.
  • Walk, stand, stoop, bend, squat, crawl, work with hands over head, kneel, and climb stairs frequently throughout shift.
  • Work from a standard and/or extended ladder and/or scaffolding.
  • Work under adverse weather conditions (hot, cold, rainy, etc.)
  • Work in confined spaces.

Assists other shop tradesmen (plumbers, electricians, carpenters, etc.) with tasks associated with their assigned work orders.

Assists HVAC Mechanics and HVAC Controls Technicians in the performance of high level maintenance activity.

Performs preventive maintenance: Services and repairs to HVAC units, pumps, water fountains, fire doors, air compressors, emergency lights, exit signs, etc.

Assigns and changes statuses, enters employees labor hours, charges out supplies to work orders from the zone virtual warehouse in the FMD work order cost distribution system called AiM.
