Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU), located in Mitchell, South Dakota, and at the heart of a growing and dynamic region of the Great Plains, announces the search for its 21st president. This presidency offers an exceptional opportunity to lead an institution on the cutting edge of innovation with a proud history and an outstanding reputation.

Building on the legacy of President Amy C. Novak, Ed.D., Dakota Wesleyan University’s 21st president will inherit a successful, effective institution with a compelling history and significant potential for the future. The university’s next president will be an entrepreneurial leader committed to thinking innovatively about the ways in which a private university can serve as an engine for creating opportunities and building community in the region that it serves. Candidates with a higher education background as well as those with successful leadership experiences in other sectors will be given full consideration.

The university is in the process of successfully completing the final elements of its most recent strategic plan. Milestones of the plan include a successful $60 million capital campaign that supported the building of five new campus buildings in the past decade; significant growth of the university’s endowment; record enrollment and retention with successful expansion into adult and online learning; a strong financial position with limited institutional debt; a culture of innovative program development among the faculty; and a robust reputation for serving as a higher education leader in rural America by equipping the future labor force with the skills to successfully grow the knowledge-era economy.

DWU is rooted in the United Methodist tradition that encourages the exploration of faith and reason. All DWU students are challenged to engage in experiential, project-oriented, and community-based learning activities. The university boasts and faculty and staff of more than 130 dedicated, engaged, and entrepreneurial individuals. DWU produces graduates who are celebrated by both employers and graduate schools as highly principled and pragmatically prepared for lives of leadership and service.
