We are searching for an Associate Director, Marketing to be an exceptional addition to our team. Reporting to the Associate Athletics Director, Marketing and Fan Experience, you will have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge in the strategy and executive of all Stanford Athletics marketing efforts to generate revenue, increase attendance and build brand affinity for Stanford Athletics programs. You will have a focus on digital marketing, including but not limited to web-based advertising, paid social campaigns, and email marketing and automation, while supporting all other advertising efforts. The right person for this role is someone who can demonstrate their ability to use innovative marketing strategies to drive ticket sales and event attendance, increase merchandise sales, generate new leads and amplify the stories of Stanford’s student-athletes and programs. This is a full-time, exempt-level position based in the Bay Area with the opportunity for telecommuting and other potential flexible work arrangements.

Your responsibilities in this role are to:

  • Create and implement strategic marketing plans for select sports, working closely with the ticket sales and fan experience teams and with support from the marketing team; support development of marketing plans for other sports and initiatives.
  • Manage, build and track marketing automation email campaigns, including nurturing campaigns and other trigger-based emails.
  • Lead in the creation, optimization and tracking of digital advertising campaigns across channels including search, display, social, OTT, and audio streaming.
  • Oversee, create and track lead generation campaigns to find ways to nurture new fans.
  • Spearhead regular surveys (e.g., post-event surveys) and market research to support strategic marketing decisions and pre- and postseason planning and analysis.
  • Write, edit, and support the design of various marketing campaigns including email marketing, digital ads, postcards, and other marketing collateral, which adhere to the communications and brand strategy and standards.
  • Collaborate with communications and digital teams to amplify digital content to build fandom and leverage social platforms as a marketing tool to help sell tickets, generate leads and support other revenue-generating initiatives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external vendors and partners (e.g., Buck/Cardinal Club, Paciolan).
  • Work cross-functionally on select projects (e.g. Cardinal Kids Club) to support brand affinity and revenue goals.
  • Be a positive steward and ambassador of the Stanford Athletics brand.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated passion for college athletics and an understanding of the evolving college sports landscape.
  • Experience in integrated marketing strategy and execution across channels including digital and print, and understands how to implement effective campaigns across multiple channels.
  • Knowledge of strategic analysis, customer segmentation strategies and marketing planning.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to lead teams, drive cross-functional groups towards a common goal, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to work independently.
  • Attitude that embraces change and welcomes fresh perspectives.
  • Ability to learn from past mistakes and adjust accordingly.
  • Team player who is willing to “get hands dirty” and help out where needed.
  • Creative problem solver with strong critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Four years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with marketing automation, Photoshop and Dreamweaver, Google Adwords, Adroll and Facebook advertising.
