Description

This position will provide advanced skills and creativity to showcase ICL’s achievements in the high-performance computing community. As part of the Technical Services group of ICL, this position has overall responsibility for the development and maintenance of the communication infrastructure and products, which impact all levels of the organization, by concisely and expeditiously creating, or otherwise providing, strategic, accurate, and understandable information regarding organizational activities. As technical services leader of this group, responsibilities include planning and coordinating the group’s activities. He/she is expected to lead or participate in the development and editing of research papers, documentation, multimedia communications, agency reporting, and other publications and information dissemination efforts dependent upon the respective activity and audience. The position will publicize work in an attractive and professional manner on all media, including written and printed material, as well as electronic and digital media, as they are the first contact for many prospective employees, funders and collaborators. This position also tracks and coordinates the graduate student participation in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Minor in Computational Science (IGMCS) program, which is led by ICL, and coordinates ICL’s community outreach activities. This position can include supervision of students or other technical staff.



Qualifications
Required Minimum Qualifications

Education:  

Bachelor’s degree in English, Information Science, Communications, or related field.

Experience:  

Three years’ experience editing technical and/or academic documents for grammar, mechanics, and style—including progress reports (e.g., NSF), journal articles, and conference papers is required.

Knowledge:

Working knowledge of word processing tools, style guides (e.g., Chicago and IEEE), publishing guidelines and best practices, and shared/collaborative files systems (e.g., Google Drive).

Skills:

Candidate must be able to demonstrate strong organizational skills and a collaborative aptitude to monitor and ensure deadlines are met. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to quickly learn new software tools and systems.

Abilities:

Must have the ability to communicate effectively and develop strong working relationships with customers from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities. Must work within strict deadlines, learn new software tools and systems, and edit technical documents of many types.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a computational science or information technology environment is preferred. The ideal candidate will also have experience using LaTeX, version control systems/repositories (e.g., GitHub, Bitbucket, Overleaf), WordPress, markup languages (e.g., HTML, MarkDown, RST), phpMyadmin, and Adobe Acrobat. Experience editing for English as a second language (ASL) customers is a plus.
